Who We Are…
Susan and Terry Thayer purchased their dream
property in 2010 after working and living in Boise, Idaho for the last nine
years. Seeking a rural lifestyle reminiscent of their childhoods, they wanted a
chance to share their love and compassion for animals and people. In 2013,
Dreamhaven Ranch became a 501c3 charitable organization operating on peaceful
grounds near Eagle, Idaho. Dreamhaven is a place where children and their families
can experience relief from a frenzied world and experience hope, peace and the
love of God.
What
We Do…
Dreamhaven Ranch is a nonprofit
organization whose mission is to offer children and their families, regardless
of their circumstance, a safe rural environment to discover faith, hope and
trust by the grace of God through the unconditional love of a horse.
The
foundation of the program is youth mentoring. An individual child is paired
with an adult leader and one of the Dreamhaven horses for a 90-minute riding or
ground education session, tailored to meet the distinctive needs of the child.
Through this hands-on experience, children receive one-on-one attention by a
leader who shares in their challenges and victories and is able model the
values of family and community that our country was founded on.
We
invite children to come as they are with the only true prerequisite being that
they are willing and want to participate.
Why We Do It...
In an
age of broken, blended and busy households, the ranch community at Dreamhaven
seeks to offer what every child and adult desires the most—a family.
In
addition to mentoring program for children (which is offered free of charge
thanks to generous donations from the community), Dreamhaven Ranch offers a
volunteer program for adults and families. Working side by side to assist with
the chores of caring for animals and tending to the garden and grounds, hearts
are mended as kids, families and staff work together in the spirit of
community. The rural lifestyle is rewarding and healing.
Where We Are…
Nestled in the foothills near Eagle,
Idaho, Dreamhaven Ranch is six acres of rural landscape at its best. The ranch
house and barns are sheltered by towering pines and the irrigated horse
pastures and sandy paddocks surrounded by post and pole fencing. A large,
lighted arena sits next to ten wooded acres and a covered spectator area keeps
visitors shaded while watching equine activities. Chickens and playful dogs
meander in the soft grass of the expansive yard and near the bountiful
vegetable garden and outdoor fire pit and water fountain. Refreshing, relaxing,
revitalizing.
